Emperor Lamar Gives Power to the Regional Moffs

“Members of this Imperial Senate,” began the Emperor, “For twenty-five thousand years, this body has led today’s society to reach a height no civilization before it has ever accomplished. It has united a galaxy of beings into a single entity, with each of you as their voice, each of you the faces of your worlds. It has led to the discovery of countless other worlds, the invention of a multitude of new technological advancements, and has thwarted the invasion of power hungry warlords several times.”

The Emperor looked around him, at the thousands in attendance and nodded, “Many great accomplishments have been had by this body…but…”

Every being held on to that word.

“This body has grown corrupt. It had allowed privateers, rogue factions, criminals of every kind, and even its very own members to rot the Old Republic from within. Every great civilization cannot be defeated from the outside, without having first conquered itself from the inside.”

Many of the Senators had grown restless as a dull murmur of voices began to fill the room, but the Emperor’s amplified voice cut through it easily.

“The Galactic Empire rose from the crumbling ruins of the Republic to deliver the promises its predecessor had failed to upkeep. The New Order has seen fit to clean away the mess of criminal elements, pirates and rogue factions. Senators who saw fit to manipulate in their favor were removed, and replaced with Senators who could restore dignity and honesty to this body. But all for naught.”

Emperor Lamar paused a moment to look behind him to the figures accompanying him, then back to the Senators, “This body has lost its focus, and in doing so, has lost its purpose. Effective immediately, I, as Emperor of the Galactic Empire hereby disband the Imperial Senate and suspend all its members from political duties entitled to them in the Galactic Empire.”

The murmur became a roar, but the roar was quickly cut short by the sight of the Stormtroopers who’d come to see the former Senators out peaceably.
